I am curious what, if any, library services are offered to middle school students at other districts?
"At our school, students are with me for K‑5 for instruction and then book selection. I am finding that at the middle school those services cease to exist. They never enter the library at all for three years; that's 6th through 8th. "
Could any of you with middle school students care to advise?
Thanks.

Yikes! Is this a trick question...?! Instruction and services hardly stop in my 7th and 8th grade library. All my classes are taught in conjunction with the classroom teachers, but I still manage to squeeze in instruction (btw 300-400 classes/year) re Effective Internet Searching, Website Evaluation, Notetaking, Plagiarism, Bibliographies, Databases, OPAC, library orientation, software applications, alternate book review projects, etc. Several literacy incentives are annual standards, like the Summer Reading Challenge and READ posters starring student reviewers. This year we created a book review blog (Google: "NMS Book Reviews". In the past we've hosted literary luncheons, poetry cafes, author visits, graffiti tables, and various contests and scavengers hunts. For several months each year, we push, promote, and train for the Spelling Bee. (We also provide services for the staff, but you only asked about students :)) It all keeps us -and our students - pleasantly busy throughout the year!
